Pet Allergy

Can I keep my pet, if I suffer with eczema?

Contact with furry animals like dogs and cats are one of the main triggers in allergies. The animal's dander, fur, dried saliva, urine and faeces are the main allergens in cats and dogs. This allergen is very similar to house dust mites as it is the protein in these substances that trigger the allergic reaction.

If you suffer with Atopic Eczema it's a really bad idea to own a pet. You might be able to get away with having a pet if you suffer with mild Eczema or the hair on the animal is very thin. I would highly suggest you get something like a goldfish instead, or something of a similar nature. Don't get a very furry animal, or you would have to face serious conseqeunces with your skin.

I can't get rid of my pet! What can I do?

Okay, you won't get rid of your pet no matter how much I try and make you reconsider. If you want to keep your pet and avoid any flare ups, you need to do a bit of work. You have to clean your furnishings, flooring, clothes, bedding and wash your pet with shampoo weekly. Have I made you reconsider yet?
